AppStore has 1.14 million 'zombie software', accounting for 83%

The continued popularity of smartphones and the use of wearable devices will lead to a significant increase in mobile data usage. According to a forecast report released by network equipment giant Cisco, global wireless data traffic is expected to grow tenfold by 2019.

Part of the basis for Cisco's "Visual Networking Index" research forecast is the growth of wireless data traffic in 2014, with Cisco stating that global wireless data traffic reached 30 billion GB last year. Cisco analysts believe that if this growth trend continues, the wireless data traffic of the global Internet will reach 292 billion GB by 2019. What is the concept of 292 billion GB of data? Perhaps this is easier to understand: equivalent to every person on Earth taking 23 selfies and uploading them to Instagram every day for a whole year, the total number of photos is equivalent to approximately 65 trillion.

One of the key driving forces behind the significant increase in wireless data traffic is the raw growth of mobile users. Currently, there are approximately 4.3 billion mobile data users worldwide, and it is expected to increase to 5.2 billion by 2019. That is to say, approximately 59% of the world's 7.2 billion population currently owns a mobile phone. By 2019, the total global population will increase to 7.6 billion, and the proportion of people who own mobile phones will increase to 69%. In addition, there are 3.2 billion wireless devices used for machine to machine communication, especially various wireless devices that share data with other machines in industrial and other commercial environments.

This includes 578 million wearable devices, such as fitness trackers and wearable wireless cameras. Cisco believes that the data usage of wearable devices will increase 18 times by 2019, with the majority of data transmitted through smartphones. For operators, dealing with the explosive growth of mobile data is naturally a top priority. Cisco has proposed a solution, which is to transfer wireless data traffic to Wi Fi networks. Last year, less than half (46%) of wireless data traffic was transferred to Wi Fi networks, and this number is expected to increase to 54% by 2019.

More than half of the voice calls will be completed through Wi Fi networks. Looking at different regions, the compound annual growth rate of mobile data usage in the Middle East and Africa will reach 72%, the annual growth rate in Central and Eastern Europe will also reach 71%, and the annual growth rate in North America will only be 47%. However, in terms of traffic, Asia leads the world. By 2019, the monthly mobile data traffic in Asia will be close to 10 billion GB, and the monthly traffic in North America will be close to 4 billion GB.

In the prediction process, Cisco combined independent reports from analysts, research on real-world traffic volumes, and its own predictions on the development direction of the wireless market. Cisco is the world's largest network equipment manufacturer, providing products to Internet and wireless service providers around the world.
